Peter Travers (Softspace) and I discussed the concept of
The English Alphabet series in the Spring of 2013, beginning the collaboration immediately thereafter; first posting on March 3rd 2013.
Our schedule called for 1 completed 2 minute piece per week;
a schedule we stuck to; excepting a few exuberant weeks when we surpassed ourselves. We completed the project in October of 2013.

The process of this collaboration was simple.
I “read” and recorded the sound of each alphabetical character
(the sole source material of each piece),
and produced a 2 minute
sound sculpture from it.
I sent this piece to send Peter, who added his treatments and arrangement to the original “seed” piece.
After Peter completed his work, each piece was considered complete, and served as the basis for a video, consisting of screen-shot images derived from player visualizations produced by the playing of each piece. I selected the screen-shots, and sent them to Peter who produced the videos for each piece.

There are plans to utilize the material from the collab in additional works dealing with linguistic themes/motifs.
